The Roman Amphitheatre, better known as the "Arena" is the most important of the monuments for which Verona is famed, and of which the city is justly proud. The Amphitheatre of Verona served as a theatre for gladiatorial games, races and other spectacular events. Since 1913 the Arena is the regular setting for splendid operatic performances.
