There is only one way to travel to London and that's with the best airline



The Halkin Hotel, Halkin Street, Beigravia, London SWI (020 7333 1000, www.halkin.co.uk). The location Very central, Tucked away n a peaceful street in the heart of Beloravia but within easy walking distance of Hyde Park, Knightsbridge and Sloane Street.

The draw The Halkin boasts the Only Michelin-starred Thai restaurant in Europe, Nahm, which overlooks a pretty, walled garden where the Duke of Windsor reputedly played tennis with Mrs Simpson The hotel has a Georgian fa~ade in keeping with the surrounding buildings, but on the inside hi-tech gadgetry and modern Italian design prevail. It is the sister hotel of The Metropolitan, a popular choice for visiting ‘A ‘-list celebrities located just around the corner in Park Lane, and the interiors for both were designed by Christina Ong, also the creative force behind the luxury retreat Parrot Cay, in the Turks and Caicos Islands, The drawbacks Service was slow at times. A pot of coffee ordered on arrival still hadn’t been delivered half an hour later. The other guests Recent entries in the visitors’ book include Elizabeth Hurley, Harrison Ford, Denzel Washington and David Bowie. These aside, the hotel is popular during the week with businesswomen and at weekends with couples celebrating birthdays and anniversaries.

The room Each of the 41 rooms is individually designed and the decor is uncluttered and chic, with plump white leather chairs, rich wooden panelling and soft colour schemes, Marbled bathrooms are large with huge, anti-mist mirrors and a generous supply of Bvlgari toiletries, Expect state-of-the-art technology and lots of gadgetry, right down to the electronic “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. The service Slowness of the coffee delivery aside, it was good overall. Staff, clad in Giorgio Armani uniforms, were attentive but unobtrusive. The bottom line Double rooms cost E295 a night, excluding breakfast
